Thanks, Hannah!

My Project ColorSwap package from Hannah arrived, and it is awesome! I haven't decided how I'm going to use the wool (Colinette Prism in Fire), but it will be for something special. Any suggestions from you knitters out there? (Jim C., I'll have no suggestions from you!)

Kate likes the goodies too!

The funky elf-hat shaped item is an egg cosy from Melin Tregwynt, a traditional Welsh weaving company.

Check out the notebook, covered and decorated by Hannah, and the vintage buttons!

Seed Stitch Scarf

My mom and dad sent a care package a couple of weeks ago. For me, they included a Meredith College t-shirt (woo hoo!) and 2 skeins of Patons Bohemian in Beatnik Blues. For Simon and me, they included the game Mancala because they know just how much Simon loves playing games, especially Chicken Foot.

Most knitters know seed stitch, so I haven’t exactly broken new ground with this pattern. But I’m sharing it because I’m so pleased with the subtle texture of this scarf (which I didn't quite manage to capture in this photo).

Yarn: Patons Bohemian (2 skeins) or comparable super bulky chenille (2.8 oz = 68 yds / 80 g = 62 m)

Needles: 10 ½

Finished size: 7" x 54" (or 18 cm x 137 cm)

Directions
Cast on 17 stitches.
Every row: K1, P1 across, ending with K1.
When only about two yards of yarn remain, bind off loosely.

Books Read in September

Christina Schwarz: Drowning Ruth
Kingsley Amis: Lucky Jim
Barbara Vine: The Chimney Sweeper’s Boy
Colm Tóibin: The Blackwater Lightship
Toni Morrison: The Bluest Eye

That's 68 books so far this year. I've read almost as many as the president has. I know what you're thinking: the president can read?!?
