Trying to Be a Little Post-ier

No, we haven't been flooded out of our apartment -- apparently the Deltawerken did their magic and kept the North Sea from claiming its rightful territory, also known as the western third of the Netherlands.

The weather has been pretty wild since early Friday morning -- lots of wind, some heavy rain but mostly during the night, and hail. In fact, on Friday I was caught in FOUR, yes FOUR, hailstorms. That's either a record or a sign of the apocalypse. Or maybe it's both.

I had a good reason for being out in the bad weather Friday. I had to go to Den Haag to deliver two goodies-filled shoeboxes for Operation Shoebox for the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in South Africa. It was supposed to be an easy trip. I had already mapped out the tram route only to arrive at Den Haag Centraal and discover that the trams were not running from the station because of some high-security UN event. So I walked and walked and experienced hailstorms 3 and 4 of the day. But I did discover a very good bakery and treated myself to a warm saucijzenbroodje, or sausage roll. Lekker!

Continuing with all things lekker, or yummy, here are some marzipan photos from yesterday.

Even marzipan naughtiness -- oh, those crazy Dutch!

Marzipan bacon with marzipan crepes and marzipan Heineken in the background

Marzipan critters

More marzipan critters

And nutritious marzipan fruit
